Hi, I'm Mom, the Social Media Intern

Today I attended LA2M with my son, Joe, the director of sales and marketing for Adrenaline Commerce, LLC. I had heard that it was a networking event and being very green in the social media department, I was not sure what to expect. Would people want me to talk about social media? If so, could I form an intelligent sentence in reply?? Probably not! Yikes, I did not want to embarrass myself or worse, my son! Imagine my relief and surprise when I thoroughly enjoyed the speaker’s presentation, “Social Marketing and Online Consumer Reviews” along with a delicious lunch…(I am a baby boomer and our generation believes that anything worth doing is much better with a high calorie accompaniment.)

After the event, Joe and I walked around downtown A2 checking out some of the retailers for possible customers. O.K., I admit, I am female and one of my passions in life is shopping, so this was not like work for me. I have spent so many years working to subsidize the family income that I had no idea that work can be fun! I was stressed out, over worked, and a little bit mad at myself for the path my career had taken. Now I am learning all sorts of new “stuff” in the form of social media, and I am amazed at how much fun it is. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that the little boy I used to chase everywhere has now grown up and is completely willing to follow ME in and out of stores, is patient with me while I learn (I hope I taught him that), and wants me to have fun at work too!

I have read about the illusive “AHA” moment and I think I may be having one of my own. Work CAN be fun, who knew?!
